IS IT SAFE TO TRAVEL TO COLOMBIA?

Colombia is generally a safe country to travel to and through. To put this into perspective, Bogota has a lower violent crime rate than many major cities in the US. Here are some “pro-tips” for a smoother trip around Colombia:

1) Ask in advance for the price of items so that you are not sticker shocked. Pro tip: most times, prices are negotiable in the town markets.

2) Credit cards are accepted widely, but Colombians still prefer cash (Colombian Pesos).

3) Remember to carry cash (e.g. to pay taxis or tolls). In Colombia, the COP (Colombian Peso) is used as currency.

4) Be mindful of surroundings and avoid walking with your phone out.

5) Consider booking tours in advance or via the hotel.

6) If your cellphone plan does not include international service, purchase a prepaid SIM card for data. Pro Tip: If your phone is eSim compatible download AIRALO. Use Referral code: MARIAN7209.

7) Leave your valuables in the hotel safe.

8) Always keep your bags and purses in sight.

9) Order taxis at the designated areas at the airport, at your hotel or via Uber. Do not hail your own cab off the street.

10) The Colombian version of Ubereats is Rappi. Download the app if you’d like anything (literally anything) delivered to your door.

11)You can reach the police on 123.

SHOULD I VISIT OTHER CITIES IN COLOMBIA?

Absolutely! In fact, we encourage you to extend your stay in Colombia after the wedding, there is just too much to see! Visit our About Colombia tab for a full list.

ARE KIDS WELCOME?

Although we love your little ones, Saturday Wedding events are an adult-only affair.

CAN I BRING A PLUS 1?

Due to limited space, we are only able to accommodate guests formally invited on your wedding invitation. If you have a plus one, it will be listed on your wedding invite and if you have any doubts check in with the groom or bride. Thank you for understanding!

HOW DO I MAKE RESERVATIONS OR CALL ANYONE PRIOR TO MY TRIP?

Communicating with the hotel, a restaurant, or a vendor is so simple from the US or Canada! Colombia loves WhatApp, so you can download the app and text them. Usually the business has an account and will take your text / call. We encourage you to make reservations at your preferred spots this way too.

ARE THE VENUES INDOORS OR OUTDOORS?

Our venues will have an indoor / outdoor concept. Although we picked September in the hopes of avoiding the start of wet season, there is always a chance of rain and our wedding planner will be prepared in that event!

WHAT SHOULD I WEAR?

Temperature in Villa de Leyva 23°C during the day and 12°C at night. We recommend guests bring a jacket or sweater for the evening. The town has cobblestone streets, it is very important to bring shoes that you can comfortably walk in. You’ll find specific event attire in the wedding schedule page.

WHEN WILL THE BRIDE AND GROOM BE GETTING THERE/LEAVING?

We plan to arrive to Villa de Leyva a couple days prior to the wedding. We will be staying in Villa de Leyva the week after the wedding and then we’ll be in Bogota for Cole’s Birthday September 27th.

WHERE CAN I DO MY HAIR AND MAKEUP?

Feel free to contact any of the following services in town ahead of time. They will most likely only speak Spanish, so make Google translate and Duolingo your best friend.
