Journey Through Time:

Celebrating Love at Casa ALCESTRE

In the heart of Villa de Leyva, steeped in history, stands “La Casa Grande”, echoing tales of heritage and spirituality.

Built in 1620 and revived in the late 1800s by Mariana’s great-grandfather, Tulio Jiménez Amador, the house was the old parish house home to Dominican friars. It became a cherished family abode, witnessing generations' milestones earning the name of “La Casa Grande”, meaning “The Big House”.

For this profound reason, Cole and Mariana have chosen this boutique hotel as the witness to their love story, a love story that will be woven into these walls.

As they embark on this journey of love and heritage, Cole and Mariana welcome you to celebrate their union in the heart of Villa De Leyva.

From Mariana’s grandfather's birth to her parents' vow renewals, these ancient walls hold her family's memories. Today, reincarnated as Hotel Casa Alcestre, the venue embodies her family’s ancestral magic.

La Casa Alcestre, once her grandfather's home, now offers an exclusive luxury for the soul, enriched with the touch of ancestry and the distinguished colonial style that defines Villa de Leyva.

GETTING THERE

Villa de Leyva, a hidden gem nestled in the heart of Colombia's Andes Mountains, where cobblestone streets, colonial charm, and natural beauty await, is approximately 3 hours away from Bogota, the capital. You will have two options: renting a car at the airport or renting private transportation (more info here).

ALONG THE WAY

On your drive to VDL, you'll discover plenty of charming roadside cafes where you can stop for a Colombian coffee and indulge in traditional pastries. Our favourite: Lacteos Velmon.

For history enthusiasts, El Puente de Boyacá is a must-visit stop. This historic bridge was the battleground for the Battle of Boyacá in 1819, a crucial conflict in Colombia's fight for independence from Spanish colonial rule. Led by Simón Bolívar, the battle marked a turning point in the struggle for freedom, solidifying Colombia's path to independence.

ARRIVING AT THE MAIN TOWN SQUARE

After your scenic journey through the Andes, you'll finally arrive in Villa de Leyva. The heart of the town is its main square, Plaza Mayor, which boasts cobblestone streets, colonial buildings, and a tranquil atmosphere. The hotel is located in the southwestern corner of this iconic square, making it easy to find once you arrive.
